Collie Ray (Bo) Hughes
January 7, 2020
Collie Ray (Bo) Hughes, 98 of Cantonment, Florida, passed away January 4, 2020, at his home. He was born in Excel, AL, on January 4, 1922, to the late George Cobb Hughes and Lula Bell Powell Hughes. His father George was a sharecropper and at the age of twelve his father modified a plow for him to be able to plow behind a mule. Despite only having a 6th grade education, he did very well for himself. He became a crane operator at the Mobile Steel Company from February 1942 until his time of enlistment. He enlisted in the Navy in 1943 and served on the following ships: NTS Bainbridge, MD., USS Greiner (DE-37) and the USS Natoma Bay (CVE 62). When World War II officially ended, he was on a ship 300 miles from the Tokyo harbor. He was honorably discharged on February 10, 1946. On April 20, 1946 he married Mary Jean Murphy and was by her side until the day the Lord called her home. He was employed for 30 years at the St. Regis Paper Company in Cantonment, Florida. His favorite past time was traveling the roads spending time with family and friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents George and Lula, his wife of 41 years Mary Jean Murphy Hughes, one son Derick Allen Hughes, and two sisters Nettie Lou Lilley and Marguree Womack.
He is survived by his two sons: Robert (Anne) Hughes of Lottie, AL; and Marcus (Patty) Hughes of Cantonment, FL; six grandchildren: Chris (Pam) Hughes of Palm Bay, FL; Steve (Michelle) Hughes of Dania Beach, FL; Cindy (Rex) McKinley of Atmore, AL; Mary (Todd) Walker of Lucedale, MS; Carey Hughes of Lottie, AL; and Carla (Jarrett) Crysell of Perdido, AL eleven great grandchildren: Chace (Claire) Godwin, Stephen Hughes, Gracie Godwin, Dylan Hughes, Cagan Crysell, Nicole Hughes, Laura Jane Hughes, Kimber Walker, Braden Crysell, Emma Walker, and Mia Hughes. Other survivors include nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 7, 2020 at 12 Noon at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Chapel with Bro. C. L. Langford and Bro. Chris Pruitt officiating. Interment will follow in Enon Baptist Church Cemetery in Goodway, AL with military honors.
Active pallbearers will be Chris Hughes, Steve Hughes, Carey Hughes, Chace Godwin, Stephen Hughes, Dylan Hughes, Cagan Crysell and Braden Crysell.
Visitation will be held Monday, January 6, 2020 from 6pm until 8pm from the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home.

Alford G. “AL” Madaris
January 7, 2020
Alford G. “AL” Madaris, 67 of Walnut Hill, FL. passed away May 25, 2019 in Walnut Hill. He was born in Troy, AL. on October 24, 1951 to the late Samuel Alfred Fletcher and Willie Mancil Madaris. He retired from the United States Air Force and served during the Gulf War.
He is survived by his wife Deneen Madaris, one son Nathaniel Collin Madaris, one daughter Jessica Koren Madaris and step daughter Krista (Bill) Sample.
A memorial service will be held Sunday, January 12, 2020 at 11 AM from the Trinity Episcopal Church in Atmore.
Warren Douglas Myrick

Warren Douglas Myrick, 59, passed away on January 7, 2020 surrounded by his beloved family and many dear friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his daddy: Horace Myrick; and grandparents: Robert and Verona Myrick and Alvin and Neva Bryant.
He leaves behind to celebrate his life: his faithful wife of 40 years: Terri; his mother: Sheila; daughters: Tiffany (Mike) Settle and Regina Lashley; a son by choice: Jessie Janes; grandchildren: Alia Janes, Taryn Janes; Kaley Lashley, Chelsi Lashley, Shelby Lashley, Easton Settle, and Emberly Settle; brother: Alvin (Jane) Myrick; and sister: Sharon (Ricky) McCrory. Doug was loved by a host of relatives and friends who all adored him. He was so much to so many and will be missed!
Doug graduated from J.M. Tate High School in 1978. He worked at various jobs throughout his lifetime to support his family, but his most cherished job was being a daddy and Pawpaw. He loved his girls and was always there whenever they needed him. Camping and fishing was a favorable pastime, doing flower arrangements, decorating his home “BIG” for Christmas, spending time with Alvin looking at the cows and never forgot to have coffee with Momma in the afternoons. But most of all, Doug was known for his big heart and love for all people, especially his family.
Our sincerest thanks and appreciation go out to the entire Oncology Department at Sacred Heart Hospital, the nurses on the 2nd floor and everyone at Covenant Hospice for the love and care shown to our beloved.
Visitation will be held at Bellview Church of Christ on Saufley Field Road in Pensacola on Friday, January 10, 2020 from 12 noon until 1:30 PM, with funeral services beginning at 1:30 PM. Pallbearers will be Bruce Myrick, Ralph Mears, Cameron Boies, Duane Bond, Bob Fincher, and Mike Evans. Internment will immediately follow the service at Little Flock Cemetery, Molino. Reception/fellowship to follow at the home of his mother on Sunshine Hill Road, Molino.
Robert John Bolcavitch, Jr.

Robert John Bolcavitch, Jr. of Atmore, AL. was born on August 9, 1928 in Eynon, PA. and passed away Saturday, January 4, 2020 at his home after a brief illness. He served in the United States Air Force during WWII and was a retired mechanical engineer. He was a member of Saint Robert Bellarmine Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his years of smoking great Boston Butts with others for the church Fall Festival.
He is survived by his wife Jerrie Jones Lambert of Atmore, AL.
A private graveside service will be held for immediate family and friends at Oak Hill Cemetery on Wednesday, January 8, 2020 with Father Gordon Milsted officiating.

Andrea Dale Hall Couch

Andrea Dale Hall Couch passed away at the age of 52 on December 29, 2019.
Andrea was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on September 9, 1967. Andrea was adopted by her loving parents, James (Buddy) and Laura Hall when she was 19 nineteen months old and quickly became known as “Angel Baby” to her family and friends. She was raised in Cottage Hill, Florida. Andrea always had a smile on her face and was the joy to those she came in contact with.
Andrea was active in baton-twirling and cheer in her community during her youth and attended Cottage Hill Baptist Church with her family. She loved the Lord and trusted in him from her youth and remained strong in her faith throughout her life.
On May 19, 2017, Andrea married the love of her life, Michael Couch.
She enjoyed reading, music, and football, but her favorite moments were spent with her husband, dog Terra, and her family.
Andrea is preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Bill and Annie Hall; maternal grandmother, Daisy Grimm; and mother-in-law, Betty Ann Hammonds.
She is survived by her husband, Michael Lee Couch; father, James Edward Hall; mother, Laura Othelia Hall; brothers, James Edward Hall II and Ronald Chaffin Hall; biological sisters, Kim, Melissa, and Lisa; biological brother, Robbie; and many nieces and nephews.
Philippians 1:6: “I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.”
Funeral services will be held at 11AM on Thursday, December 2, 2020 at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Pastor Bill Heiden officiating. Interment will follow in Elizabeth Chapel.

James J. Hawthorne, 68, went home to be with Jesus on December 29, 2019. James is a winner! He fought the good fight, finished his course and he kept the faith. He will be dearly missed by all of us that must travel on this road of life.
He is preceded in death by his father, James R. Hawthorne; mother, Mattie Lee Bass Hawthorne; brothers and sisters: Edward Hawthorne, Ann Blanton, Aubrey Hawthorne, Ray Hawthorne, and Betty Sue Hawthorne.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon C. Hawthorne; sisters, Irene Joyner and Loretta (Tommy) McCrory; sister-in law, Ruth Hawthorne; son, Brandon (Tanya) Holt; grandchildren: Ryan Holt, Matthew (Elizabeth) Holt, Laura Holt, and Justic Brewton; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral will be held at Brownsdale Baptist Church on Friday, January 3, 2020. Visitation will be from 1:00 pm until the service begins at 2:00 pm. Brother Bobby Carnley and Jeff Leake will officiate. Burial will follow at Cora Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Mary June Townson, age 75, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at her home in Enterprise, Alabama.
Mrs. Townson was a native of Canoe, AL, former longtime resident of Atmore, AL and had resided in Enterprise, AL for the past 2 months. She was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was of the Pentecostal Faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles Townson; mother, Louise Henderson; father, Burl Weeks; sister, Frances Ledkins and brother, Robert Weeks.
She is survived by her three daughters, Tammy Woods of Enterprise, AL, Sherry Lambert of Evergreen, AL and Diane (Artie) Godwin of Evergreen, AL; one brother, Bobby (Mary) Weeks of Saraland, AL; three sisters, Wanda (Johnny) Mosley of Andalusia, AL, Glenda Godwin of Oak Grove, FL and Betty (Braxton) Thomley of Perdido, AL; thirteen grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 4, 2020 at 2:00 PM at the Petty-Eastside Chapel with Rev. Angelo Thomley and Bro. Michael Hadley officiating.
Burial will follow at Traveler’s Rest Cemetery.

Nellie Marie Goodale

Nellie Marie Goodale passed away at the age of 69 on December 24, 2019.
Nellie was born in Bond, Mississippi on June 12, 1950. Nellie’s first job ever was working at Vanity Fair as a seamstress. In the late 70s, she went to work at Bill’s Dollar Store in Cantonment, Florida. 1990 brought a new career path for Nellie. She started working with the Escambia County School Board. She retired in 2015 with 26 years of dedicated service.
Nellie was an avid gardener who loved working outdoors and planting her flowers. Her flower beds were some of the prettiest on the street.
Nellie loved fishing with her honey, Carlis. Anytime that Nellie could put a pole in the water, she was ready. She also helped teach her four grandchildren how to fish and would have competitions on who could catch the biggest fish or most worms. Nellie worshiped her grandchildren.
Nellie loved the outdoors so much that she would travel to the hunting camp in Alabama, which had no running water or electricity. She would take nature walks and build forts with her grandchildren. Sometimes they would find deer sheds, which were the only horns anyone would get that weekend.
Nellie would also build the biggest and best bonfires for her family and friends to enjoy. Nobody did it better than Nellie.
Nellie was also a great cook. She could throw down a meal in seconds that everyone loved and was miserable by the end of it because they ate so much.
Nellie never met a stranger, cherished her friends, and lived life to the fullest. Family was Nellie’s love.
She is preceded in death by her father, Obra James Bell; mother, Myrtle Elloise Daughdrill; and brothers, Leon “Doug” William Bell, James “Brownie” Bryan Bell, and Clint Bell.
Nellie is survived by her husband, Carlis Goodale; sons, Darryl and Daniel Goodale; sister, Ritter Kilcrease; brother, Jewel Bell; sister-in-laws, Carol Askren and Janice Allen; brother-in-laws, Edward Goodale, Raymond Goodale, Willard Askren, and Robert Allen; mother-in-law, Margie Goodale-Boutwell; four grandchildren, Ashlee, Daulton, Haleigh, and Kylie; and her beloved dog, Lucy.
Nellie’s motto to live by: “Do unto others as you would have done unto you. I have made a lot of friends. I never met a stranger. If I can help anyone, I always tried.”
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 4, 2020, at Faith Chapel Funeral Home North with Chaplain Jason Adams officiating.

Duane Gunnels Biggs, 82 of Canoe, AL. passed away December 29, 2019 in Canoe. She was born August 22, 1937 in Calhoun County, AL. to the late Vinnie and Irola Gunnels. She was a retired school bus driver from the Escambia County Alabama School System. She was a member of Healing Waters Church in Bay Minette, AL. She is preceded in death by her parents, a sister Helen Willis and a grandson Cory Jones.
She is survived by her loving husband of 62 years Luman Ray Biggs of Canoe, AL and a daughter Felicia (Clarence) Carlton of Canoe, AL. One brother Billy Ray (Norma) Gunnels of Piedmont, AL. and one sister Myra Jo Giles of Piedmont, AL. Grandson Eric Jones and great grandchildren Kennedy Jones, Dagan Jones, Addison Jones, Madelyn Jones, Garrick Freeze, Rylee Carlton, Reese Carlton, Rowland Carlton.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 2, 2020 at 12 noon at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. John Loper and Bro. Richard Daniels officiating. Graveside services will follow at 2:30 PM at the Alabama State Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Spanish Fort, AL.

George Walder Scogin
December 30, 2019
George Walder Scogin, 84, passed away Dec. 27, 2019 in Pensacola following a long illness. He was surrounded by family at his passing.
He grew up in Bay Minette and graduated from Baldwin County High School where he played football and was senior class president.
At the age of 11, Scogin started working for Thompson’s Fine Fashions. In the mid 1960s, he became manager of Thompson’s in Atmore, which he managed until he retired in the early 1990s. He later worked for Harold Allen Mobile Homes.
He was active in many civic organizations in Atmore, including the Atmore Lions Club the downtown merchants’ association, the Atmore Chamber of Commerce and the Jaycees, holding multiple offices for these groups.
He attended Woodbine United Methodist Church in Pace, FL. While in Atmore he was an active member of the First Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School and served as a deacon.
Scogin and his wife, Patsy Ann, were married for 52 years until her death in 2008. Together they had four children.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Patsy Ann, his parents, George McLeod and Mertice, a brother, William “Bill” Scogin and a nephew, Billy.
Scogin is survived by four children: Mike (Johnna) of Georgetown, KY, Becky Hetrick of Crestview, FL, Gail (Park) Young of Walnut Hill, FL, and Cindy (Sean) Harigel of Pace, FL; five grandchildren, Stephen (Ashleigh) Hetrick, Ashley (Thomas) Long, James Scogin, Paxton Davis and Katherine Scogin; and five great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 31, 2019 at 11 AM at the Johnson-Quimby Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. David Taylor officiating. Burial will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be Stephen Hetrick, Thomas Long, Cameron Long, Triston Long, Paxton Davis and James Scogin.
