Kayo Stanton was born October 23, 1929, in Century, FL. His nickname "Kayo" came from a comic strip named Moon Mullins and a little boy named Kayo that slept in a dresser drawer.
Kayo Stanton's parents were Esta and V.E.(Bubba) Stanton who owned and operated a grocery store in Century for many years known as "Bubba." Later on when the grocery store closed, furniture and appliances were added, and the store name was changed to Stanton's of Century. Having been raised the son of a Century Blackcat fan, naturally Kayo had the love of football in his life. He played football for Century High School where he graduated in 1947. He went to Massey Draughn Business College in Montgomery, Alabama.
In 1949 Kayo married his high school sweetheart Frances Ellen Harrison. To them were born three children: David Earl, Anne, and Flora Jean.
Soon after college Kayo began announcing all the Century High School home games. He became known as "The Voice of the Blackcats," with his familiar, deep voice-"Heeeerrreee come the Blackcats!" After 40 years of announcing, cancer robbed him of his health, and he had to retire from the fame he loved so much.
The last game at Century High (before Century and Ernest Ward combined to form Northview) was played in his honor with many people attending to wish him well. Kayo passed away June 13, 1991. As a memorial, the stadium at Century High was named "The Kayo Stanton Stadium."
