Even if a defendant is acquitted, or there was a straight up mistake, the government does not have to give it back. You can legally challenge it, but good luck with that (and I won't even get on my high horse about eminent domain). Luckily in this case I don't think a mistake has happened (presumed innocent until proven guilty right) so good job ECSO (I need a thumbs up emoji in here). Fun fact about seized money.
