The problem is one of supply and demand for illegal drugs in this community. And that has many, many roots. Addiction, poverty, homelessness, job loss, underemployment, lack of mental services, vices, cruddy upbringing, and some people who have so much money they simply burn it on illegal stuff. We cannot just “prison away” these issues and imagine an idyllic utopia by doing such. If there is going to be some Blue Ribbon Panel review something, it should be on what the overall community is successfully and not-so-successfully doing about the root of the drug problem. I have a feeling the judges could constructively provide a lot of cold, hard facts for everyone to digest. The problem is not weak judges.
