They have done this in the past and majority of the homes that were free– well go look at them now! They all look like crap! They don’t take care of them. There are a few that don’t even have running water now because they cannot afford it. Come on fix the streets and use the money there. There is no hope for most of these people because taxpayers keep stepping in and footing the bill and as long as we keep doing that they will do nothing to maintain the homes or yards. Take a ride around the historic district and just look!

How many years has Century been trying just about everything to survive? Then somehow or another they get a grant and turn right around and ask Escambia County for more. Go away Century. This is absolutely ridiculous.

Wow, maybe should have moved from the north end! Century, 10MM for a “Shelter” and now this $1.2MM! Just kidding, love the North End but if these funds ever make it to Century (doubtful) they will certainly be misused or wasted! That’s 20+ years of experience talking.

@DLo, exactly what I was thinking. The town didn’t offer to pay my deductible after the tornado damaged my house in 2016. Yet, here are people getting free homes because of where they live in town. Community Development Block Grants are not fair to most taxpayers and should be stopped immediately. If they can’t do the same for everyone, they shouldn’t do it for anyone.

I have a bathroom that needs remodeling, would the taxpayers be willing to cover the cost and provide me with alternative facilities for my convenience during construction? I wonder how many days per year I work to support the “town” of Century?
