I live on Highway 97 near the Alabama state line, and I strongly oppose the proposed widening of this highway. Expanding it to four lanes will likely result in many residents, including myself, losing our land. I expect clear answers regarding the use of eminent domain and whether property owners will be fairly and fully compensated.

I also question the claim that widening the highway will improve safety. Drivers are already speeding excessively, and adding more lanes will likely increase those speeds, not reduce them. As it stands, I am often unable to safely turn into my own driveway without risking being rear-ended by a speeding vehicle.

Unsafe driving is a daily occurrence. It is common to see multiple vehicles—sometimes five or six at once—passing in a dangerous manner, nearly causing head-on collisions. Despite repeated law enforcement presence, enforcement appears ineffective, and violations continue.

Given these conditions, I do not see how widening Highway 97 will make this road safer. I am requesting a clear explanation of how this project will address the existing safety issues rather than worsen them, as well as transparency regarding property impacts and compensation.

Will emergency services be included in the discussion? As District 5 continues to develop we need to be assured that emergency services (and the roads they travel) are discussed
