I have lived here in Escambia county for close to 40 years and NEVER NEVER has Century done ANYTHING right with finanes and YET they get bailed out to do it again!! STOP!! STOP–let them fail —-THEN grow Escambia county and HANDLE IT

Does the mayor and council members have a discretionary fund ( taxpayer money ) like the county commissioners in Escambia county Florida because they do such a great job ?

Century has always run in the red for utilities and refused outside help. Every decision they have made has gone financially worse. When made to have some one look into the issues, they refused the advice given to fix it. They ran potential business off which could have increased revenue for Century. Kick the current council out, have county take over. People if you do not speak up by voting out these people who do not have your best interest in mind, then you are as much to blame as the ones causing the problems. Stop giving your hard earned tax dollars to people who don’t care about you. Research the candidates. Does their track record show them worthy of the position. NorthEscambia.com do a 10+ year history summary on all the reports you did on the council of Century. Mind-blowing that City council still exists.

The same folks complaining about water, sewer and gas are complaining about about rate increases. The city has to at least break even plus a bit otherwise they will be the first to complain if the city cannot restore services.

If the town government were to “unincorporate” or “dissolve”, Escambia County would then be the local government. In fact, in terms of most governance (policing, fire, tax collection, courts and records, property appraisal, environmental enforcement, building inspections, and more, the County is in control at this time. Therefore, much of governance over Century is already budgeted.

Water, sewer, parks, and natural gas are Century’s primary operations and services. In an orderly unincorporation, these services would be transferred and/or sold to qualified operators.

When Cedar Grove in Bay County voted to dissolve, Bay County immediately took over governance. There is no refusal option by a county since counties are already an extension of state governance.

I’m surprised that the town could find a certified auditor who was willing to take on this near impossible task. What did the audit cost?

@SW they will never shut the doors because it’s a money source for someone because the money is going somewhere. For years this town has received millions with nothing to show for it. Throwing money down a rabbit hole.

No worries, we have a new administrator. Former state representative Dave Murzin is the new Town Administrator. With the $137,000.00 yearly salary he will get the job done for the citizens. The State of Florida funds 100% of his health insurance as a two term state politician so that’s one less expense for Century residents to pay.
