I have lived in Milestone for 28 years. I wonder why that property has not been developed in 3 decades?

Voices in Pensacola, you hit on the irony and hypocrisy so often on display when it comes to other people's property.

"I should be able to do what I want on my land" folks quickly pivot to "they shouldn't be able to do that on their land." It's quite amusing and par for the course.

Suburban sprawl with inadequate infrastructure is what Molino is going to look like in 5 years.

So, I’m curious.

If a bank is not an acceptable land use at this location, and apparently not cannabis shops either, what IS acceptable for this location? (Certainly not manufacturing.)

If a private bank has satisfied its marketing study and the site meets its business goals, in a capitalistic economic system, who are we to say this venture is not needed? And for all we know, it may be completely AI run (and it’s coming very soon).

Milestone was designed as a PUD, a Planned Unit Development. A bank here is consistent with the plan for that development. In fact, the access point to the bank is not even on Nine Mile Road. Residents of Milestone itself would never even need to leave the development to go to the bank. It’s within the development itself.

There are many greater future land use concerns in Escambia County than a 200’ x 200’ lot in a PUD on Nine Mile Road. The REAL question is what do you want Molino to look like in 5, 19, and 20 years. Because, it’s coming very soon!

There is no traffic light at this intersection and traffic struggles to turn into and out of this area already. I can’t imagine the impact of another business.

@steve.. there do seem to already be a lot of banking options in the area and I agree that brick and mortar banks have been closing for over a decade and still are. However, the BOCC has no legal grounds to keep another bank from opening, whether it is needed or not.

Hmm...already two bank buildings just to the west, in front of Publix. Another building, appears to be a credit union, being built just to the east, and more banks just to the east side of the storage facility in the same area.
So many banks have downsized or closed brick-and-mortar locations, in favor of electronic processing, I wonder how long it'll be before this new bank is converted to a cannabis shop.
I know the County will probably just rubber stamp this, but does anyone else ever wonder if we could get the powers-that-be to focus on attracting manufacturing/longer term employers?
