He was headed home because he had a 1:00 curfew. And we do not know yet who was at fault. What if the driver of the truck ran the red light? We will just have to wait and see.

In reponse to Why…..you are mistaken. A 17-year-old licensed driver may not drive between 1 am and 5 am, unless driving to or from work or accompanied by a licensed driver age 21 or older. The double white line prevents lane changes/passing when going through the intersection. The report states that the 17yo was entering Hwy.29 from Valero parking. There are ways the 26 yo could be at fault but there’s no need to discuss fault here. This is a tragic situation. A life has been lost and this has to be very difficult for the other driver as well as the families of both drivers. There’s no reason for this type of commentary especially if you clearly don’t know the rules of the road. Leave traffic investigations to FHP. My heart goes out to all involved.

I always worried about my two kids back in the day driving late at night or early morning … this is horrible For both families involved… We all need to be safer then what we are out there on the roads … especially at night. It’s so much harder to drive
With just headlights… not to mention cell phones

I was on my way home from work following the ambulance and about 8 deputies responding to this terrible crash. They immediately blocked both sides of hwy 29 and turned everyone around. It was a really bad.
The kid was only 17 years old what a terrible tragedy.
My sincere condolences to the family.

It’s heartbreaking that a young man lost his life and another will have to live with this for the rest of his but the question is why was this 17 year old even behind the wheel at midnight? If I am not mistaken drivers his age have a curfew that must be followed. There is a reason these sort of rules exist in the first place. Also what charges would be able to even be brought against the other man who was coming NORTHbound on Highway 29? Going by the facts stated here in this post, the young 17 year old man was attempting to cross(turning left)four lanes of traffic that have double solid lines. This could not possibly be the 26 year old man’s fault. Still my condolences to the family and I hope the other young man is alright.
