This is the 3rd Simpson Bridge repair since Hurricane Ivan back in 2004. It appears the highway department has a difficult time getting it right, i.e., always awarding contracts to the lowest bidder, The lowest bidder often cost more with cost overruns, which lead to bailouts.
The highway department really needs to award contracts on best value with incentives for early completion. Contracts definitely need a target completion date that is reasonable. The recent Simpson Bridge project contract obviously had NO target completion date. It wasan outrage the way they shut down one lane for over a year and just gave all commuters a big finger as they crammed everyone into one lane. This waisted everyone’ time and money.

When I first moved to Florida in 1995, I used to tell people outside of Florida, “At least we see where our money goes! They’re always improving roadways here”. I have of course since learned, it was not that they were doing a lot, it was simply the SAME projects that took years to complete!

Excellent! They completed one roadway project in my lifetime. I honestly didn’t think it could be done! In the meanwhile – central Florida has seen the start and completion of THREE major traffic interchanges. Smh … this area must be where the paving company sends employees beating retirement.

Don’t relax too quick. Likely will come up with new plans in within 3 years to change it again. Look at the ramps being changed at I-10 and 29(what a mess)
