I played with Hugh at Marion Military Institute Jr. College 1982 and 1983 seasons. He was a great leader and fierce competitor. The one thing that always stood out to me was that he did everything with a calmness that always pushed the positive. Hugh played center and I played guard. He was our leader of the O-Line. I lost contact with Hugh after we both left MMI but I always kept up with his Coaching accomplishments over the years. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his former players. I know he was a great leader and mentor to many young men. RIP Hugh. Rick Long

I loved for our teams to compete agist coach Hugh fountain. As I was the track coach at Lee-Scott academy. A fierce competitor but a Godly man was he. He would not say much during the meets. He would have his clip board in hand and righting notes on each event. Then he would go back and see where he could attack you and what events were weaker for you. This man taught me more than he will ever know. I got a chance to see him at the state meet last year in Cullman. I was so excited to see him. He would come to our Lee-Scott meets and we would feed the coaches he would always ask hey coach can I get one of your meet referee shirts. I am truly blessed to have met this man. He is smiling in heaven and would want everyone to mourn a little but get busy living. Love you Franklin smith

We battled against each other in High School. W.S Neal and T. R. Miller. Became teamates and friends at Marion Military Institute. Great competitor and West person. Love you man.

Coached Hugh in PeeWee ball in mid 70’s, he was a fine young man and one you knew would do well in whatever career he pursued. He was a credit to his profession and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Go Eagles
