I am 81 years old and grew up on old Molino Road. The winters then were very cold and I remember snow in 1956 and 1958. My grandmother and I lived in an old frame house heated by wood in a flat top cast iron heater. Later on we acquired a gas heater and that made it a bit warmer. On very cold mornings the moisture in the earth would freeze and spue up out of the ground. Every step you took the ice would crunch beneath your feet. There were times before a cold front moved in, l a slow rain would begin around dark and in the morning there would be icicles four to six inches long hanging from the roof. I look back with fond memories of those days. Times were harder then and “things” were fewer, but people were happier then.

When I was very young, we relied on a fireplace to help warm our home. FF to 1990. When we were shopping for our home I insisted on a wood burning fireplace. My wife didn’t want one. I knew how cold it could be with a power outage! We might not have our computer when this weather gets here but I promise we will be warm! People, please watch out for a neighbor who might need a hand getting warm!

If it’s sleet/frozen rain and accumulates on trees, remember this can cause limbs to break, therefore causing power outages. Be prepared for that. It may be pretty and fun, but also has its problems.
