You know, I remember when I was a kid in Royal Rangers we did a similar project. We all buried things important to us at that time and a year later opened them to take us back to the past and to see how we changed in our taste. It was the coolest thing ever. I think this was an excellent idea by the city council and brought alot of people joy and brought a community together. With the people I know are on the council I know they will repeat and improve this idea. Hats off to the leaders of the city. They are doing a great job.

I think the time capsule is an awesome idea & it doesn’t have to stay buried 100 years, as someone mentioned, I don’t think there’s a set time for it to stay buried & so what if it’s opened a couple of days late. Century is a beautiful place & I believe that it’s being governed by the people, for the people & it could be a horrible place to live, but it’s not. I believe the Mayor has acted in the best interest of the town & will continue to do so. The crime rate is low & it’s a safe place to live & raise a family & it’s one of the cheapest places to live around here. I see great things for the town of Century in the near future, it’s growing exponentially & will soon be one of the best places to live in Northwest Florida. It’s a beautiful town full of amazing people & anyone would be lucky to live there.

Anyone not satisfied with city management should step up and run for council. I know the current administration is running things with integrity.

What a neat idea. We should all be excited about something fun and see what they find. With all the bad things going on in the world we should embrace something to rally around to help connect us all instead of tearing one another down

@eric. All towns have a town manager. Surely you aren’t suggesting that one man should know everything about everything and even if he did, expecting him to have time to attend to all town business is a bit of a stretch. Then add to that the fact that there is very little compensation for the position, I think we need to be thanking the people who are giving their time and energy to try and improve the condition of our town.

I was a firefighter along with my husband at that time it was buried. Maybe after they open it, they will add momentoes from today’s era and bury it again for another 25 years and continue doing it that way. It will be interesting to see how much changes.

We were there when it was buried. I would like to be there when it is opened., I think Mr Barnes had high hopes for our town. He would be so disappointed the way things are now. I wish it could be like it use to be but we just don;t have enough people to care anymore,

@anne … if the people in century could manage themselves, they wouldn’t need suggestions from everyone. It’s sad that incompetent people keep electing incompetent people to “run” the town. The biggest joke in Florida is century. The last good joke was hiring a mayor that said he doesn’t know what he’s doing, so they had to hire a firm to help – instead of either not taking the job or resigning immediately. Nope. That would take integrity.

How about a New Year’s Resolution to let Century operate on its own without suggestions from those of us who don’t live there? Let the residents strive to thrive in 2025.
