Having resided for 12 years inside the town limits directly on US 29, I suggest that the first, best and cheapest solution should be to ENFORCE THE 35MPH SPEED LIMIT on everyone . . . not just out-of-staters on weekends.

Inattentive drivers and inattentive pedestrians. Why are people stepping out in front of traffic? Don’t assume that the car coming toward you will stop. Last night I stopped at the grocery store and on my way out I checked the crossing area, then started walking across. But a lady came around the corner and entered the crossing area and was driving too quickly. She reached up to pull the visor down due to the evening sun and she almost didn’t see me in time. So I have to be even more careful than I already was and she made the mistake of taking her attention off the crossing area while moving. If the sun was that bad, she should have stopped at the start of the crossing area.

What century needs is a by pass. No need for the rest of the nation to see Florida’s most poorly run town. Mess of a town that it is, lets keep this one hidden. Or maybe we could send the whole town to boarding school, like in West Virgina or Kentucky, where it could blend in.

Yes, there are a lot of suicidal pedestrians, but there are a lot more murderer drivers. we all see it in our neighbourhoods, they zip at 60 mph past the 30 mph speed limit signs. I also understand, the vast majority of commenters here (EC residents) never walk. Com’on folks, walking improves your health tremendously, don’t sit all days long in front of your TVs absorbing stuff they feed you, get some time for yourselves just walk. There are plenty of safe spaces to do it.

This is a total waste of taxpayer money. The people Jay walking will continue to do so, even with the crosswalks. Unless there is some sort of median barrier (like Brownsville in Pensacola has), Pedestrian deaths will continue. Public experience proves that unless restricted into the proper crosswalk areas, people ignore the danger(s).

What’s even more dangerous is the already “finished” side of the road that residents are currently having to use on a daily basis. The dips and lumps are enough to throw any vehicle’s vector of travel off. I say each time I go through there, “This cannot be what’s considered ‘complete’!” Hopefully it will be corrected before throwing two crosswalks in to play.

Why can’t people just learn to cross the street properly and wear light colored clothing or something reflective when crossing the street at night? No matter how many crosswalks is added you can’t fix stupid. Are they going to add red lights as well?

Are there traffic lights at these crosswalks?
Walkers at night usually has dark cloths on and their mindsets are the traffic will have to stop for I have the right of way.

This is an awful idea, most people are just passing through Century to get to Pensacola, or trying to get out of the town that time forgot as quickly as possible. You don’t need anything else to slow you up in Century.
