Even with knowing this is a dangerous intersection, sometimes when I travel on Hwy 196 towards Hwy 29 I can’t tell I’m getting close until I’m almost to Hwy 29. I feel flashing lights on the stop signs would be helpful.

What is needed is an interstate highway connecting I-10 to I-65, preferably passing through either Escambia County or, more appropriately, through Santa Rosa County. This would alleviate the burden of high-speed through traffic on local communities.

Rumble strips don't work. Once a careless driver finds that the intersection has rumble strips they cross into the opposing lane and just drive around them. I watched multiple car do that yesterday. Also if you want to advocate for rumble strips put them in front of your house and see if you enjoy the constant noise.

As for everything else these are methods that work but you can't fix someone who feels entitled to driving any way they feel they can. The only way this will slow things down is law enforcement and instead of fines community service picking up trash along the highways. So they can get a sense of how dangerous their actions really are.

Kris the rumble strips will have to be maintained. I know of a intersection where they were not maintained and the driver crossing over the strips could not feel them. It was a very foggy morning and this driver was hit by an 18 wheeler (I think)......in this case the driver did not make it. But as long as they are maintained and replaced when they get wore down it should help.

Just got back from a rather long trip.

I saw a large increase in the number of traffic circles used on rather large roadways and intersections. Yield going in, choose your exit. Definitely slows down cars at intersections, yet no backups. I think 29/196 would be a perfect place for a circle.

And in Texas, service roads are just part of the system on 4 lane highways. And, there are limited access exits and entrances. This essentially eliminates or reduces intersections.

Unfortunately, FDOT’s policy encourages new roadways to be developed (like Blue Angel Parkway or the Milton Dogwood Drive “bypass”, and unlimited intersection and driveway connects are allowed and development takes over the “bypass.” Its a bad policy.

Maybe there is a culture of reckless driving that is considered as a norm in the community.

No traffic signal or rumble strip will change that. That has to change from within.

Either put a light at every intersection, or JUST add more speed bumps.

How about this, send the traffic unit around to do their job!!!!!!!!! Like the Michigan hwy. 500, palafox 500, or the 29 & I10 (35) 60

NOT just escort funerals.
