I know that in the past the highway patrol has used small planes with cameras and also at one time the Mississippi highway patrol utilized helicopters to monitor and catch speeders. I wonder if Florida still has any aircraft for this use. An eye in the sky would definitely help.

@ Straightshooter , I was thinking the same thing but more like a speed bump then a traffic light followed up by a traffic circle. That should fix all the bad driving habits.

I drive this bridge 8-10 times a week, since I live in Navarre and work in Mobile. This bridge is nothing short of a racetrack to some, weaving in and out of traffic, tailgating so close you can’t see their front end. I am surprised this hasn’t happened before and I am so sad for the victims of these aggressive drivers. I see them every single time I am on that bridge, and the only thing that will begin to address the problem is a strong police presence beginning back around the I110 spur, through to the end of the third lane. These irresponsible drivers put us all in great danger and should be stopped with severe penalties for speeding through this area.

Here let me try to come up with something I know nothing about… I believe it was caused by a ladybug. Thats right a not very lady like ladybug. The perpetrator ladybug AKA “I fly you die”, was last seen leaving the accident scene at a slow rate of zig zag flight…… them zigzags probably introduced a calming effect….

Write every deserved ticket on the stretch of bridge for one month and get the stats for the way people drive on that bridge. Hwy 90 under construction is safer that the I-100 Bridge!

Roger you really think self driving cars is the answer. I think not. Show me concrete documentation to back up your assumptions. I drive for a living and there are more idiot drivers on the road every day. Their attitude is that after them you’re number one. And oh yes those little black numbers on a white background means nothing to them

Texting and driving are the highest rate of accidents. I’ve never seen so much accidents in my life until I moved here in Pensacola. Praying for that person who lost his life and to his family. Praying for those who was hurt for speed recovery. God bless all the drivers and passengers. Stay safe.

The fact that this occurred on a wide open road that meets modern hwy standards allowing free flowing traffic should be the first clue to the accident. It’s in this very section of the hwy that traffic picks up speed tremendously. Even with a 70 mph speed limit it’s not fast enough for most people. 80+ mph traffic is common, deny it if you want to but it’s true. Cell phone use on the hwy is everywhere, deny that & your part of the problem. Failing to maintain proper distance in traffic & situational awareness is non existent. Hands free cell phone use at almost any speed diminishes situational awareness. There are not enough FHP Troopers on the hwy in Escambia & Santa Rosa Counties to monitor traffic & there will never will be. You can take away a person’s driver’s licence & that will not stop them from driving. One careless act is more than likely what initiated this accident.

This had effects all the way to molino with the bumper to bumper detour traffic. Sad that the part of th interstate where this happened is WIDE and easy to drive most times. Something happened to cause this wreck and I am waging its a phone and being distracted……………… Self driving cars can not get here fast enough. Too many good people getting harmed … I m still for driving if you want.. But for those that dont, there should be a car that can do it safely.
