If the FDOT would install raised reflectors along the bike lanes like they do the car lanes, maybe the ones who "Drive in Braille" wouldn't kill so many pedestrians. Look and you will see. There are none on the bike lanes.

Not only should pedestrians walking along a road wear bright/reflective closing, they should walk AGAINST the traffic. This guy was going West approaching Foxrun; he was walking in the same direction as traffic and he could not see a car coming at him from behind. I walk along the roads in our neighborhood when it is dark, when I see a car approaching I jump off the road and keep my eyes on the car. Sometimes I turn on a flashlight and wave it, but being off the road when a car is close is most important. For those who say: don't walk, stay home - I feel sorry for you.

Tragic it is….
Too many pedestrians seem to wear dark colored clothes; no clue what this man was wearing. I think 740 would be in the “nautical twilight” which is tough to see
I guess for FLDOT ( think the alt 90 is state) to put sidewalks in they would have to run storm pipes, drains etc before any thought of sidewalks. Sure would love them as I live on nine mile and in no way would I walk or bike on it as it is now…

Jimmy, the article said he was walking in the bicycle lane so in this case, there was infrastructure. I hate that he died and I agree the driver shouldn't have hit him. But, he was out in traffic, the driver was probably in heavy traffic, 9 mile is known to have alot of traffic so it's understandable how this tragedy was an accident completely.

YES!!! Why can't we have sidewalks? When growing up in Georgia, we had sidewalks everywhere. I VERY rarely heard of anyone being hit by a vehicle.

Another sad story of a pedestrian hit, God rest his soul. Prayers for the family.

I don’t know this particular situation but I am with you “always be alert” pedestrians need to wear bright colored clothing at night. I also see it all the time, people walking or riding bikes at night in dark clothes. Please people, make yourself visible! There are too many distractions these days to take the chance of not wearing something that catches the eye.

Stay alert..I agree. We definitely need sidewalks. However I have come upon people walking or riding electric scooters in all dark clothing, in very dark areas. ..prayers to all involved.

Walking along the road is dangerous at any time, but especially at night. There have been numerous occasions when I've passed a pedestrian, dressed in dark clothes, walking alongside a major roadway around here.

I didn't see them until the absolute last minute...if one were to have drifted over just a bit, we would have been reading about it on here.

If you have to walk, make sure you're visible...and move as far away possible from the lane of travel.

ASSUME NOBODY SEES YOU. It may save your life.

Maybe some day we'll have sidewalks?

I was dodging cars 30 years ago getting off the school bus and attempting to cross 9th, Tippin, 12th Avenue - the crosswalk signals were broken and would tell me to walk during crossing traffic.

This is so extremely sad to see that with so many kids, elderly, and others, walking in the grassy ditches alongside 9 mile road, Pine Forest, Mobile Highway, etc

When will the town have meaningful infrastructure???

I saw my first dead body 30 something years ago, another dead pedestrian trying to walk alongside 9 mile road. Was somewhat shocking to my world view at that young age.
