Ann, good info about the trees. But seems like more maintenance. for the county planting more trees when they are cutting down the giant old oaks on New Chemstrand. It may be necessary but it’s still sad and sad that the county is making New Chemstrand a major thoroughfare on a residential area.

All the garden centers have fruit trees for sale in the spring. If you would plant one now do you have to wrap it each night when the temperature goes down to freezing

Ann, Thank you for the information. I always get the plants given away in April. I plant those I buy in October. I will try to attend one of your meetings later this year.

To Anne in answer to your question. The 3rd Friday in January is arbor day across the whole state of Florida. National Arbor Day is the last Friday in April. Here in Florida it is usually too warm by then to be planting trees. Trees need to planted when they are dormant (winter) so the plant can grow and establish new roots before spring when it concentrates on new growth. You can plant container grown trees in warmer weather, but their survival rate declines substantially. The next meeting Of Honeysuckle Garden Club is on Feb 18 at 2:00PM in the portable building behind the Barrineau Park Community Center.
