I live at 9th and Fairfield and couldn’t tell you the last time there was a wreck there. This is just another big government scheme to take money from citizens.

* do obey traffic laws, even if you do like them

* do understand actual facts.
**The cameras in Gulf Breeze have a video online of you running the light, and they can see your car and the light at the same time – so it’s not a cop trusting a computer or a single photo.
**a ruling by a state court in Utah is completely irrelevant to here
**”they’re not stopping all crimes, so let’s not do this” is a really stupid argument. I’d love more cops writing legitimate tickets for other offenses, but that doesn’t absolve guilt for running red lights

As politicians I other areas have come to the realization that these cameras are not productive in the long run, Pensacola proves, yet again, it is behind the times.

Part of the reason people run red lights is because someone in a line in front at the light is on their cell phones either talking or texting and they’re not paying attention. People…..PLEASE be considerate and PUT the phone down while you’re behind the wheel. Texting and driving is against the law.

Maybe you have not studied the issue well. I personally know someone who let somebody they thought was a friend use their car. The said friend ran TWO camera lights. Now the person I know gets the ticket because it’s their car. The car OWNER has to pay the fine unless they can prove they were not driving by having the actual driver sign an affidavit admitting they were driving. If the actual driver does not sign guess who in on the hook? Did you also know that study after study has shown that accidents go UP when cameras are used not down. But ticket revenue goes UP.

Unconstitutional.

The state of Utah ruled photo enforcement is unconstitutional in the 1990s because you can’t cross examine a photo. The police officer in court defending the ticket isn’t the accuser. Citing/defending state law is moot due to being inferior to constitutional law (see Article 6 Section 2 of US Constitution). It has been proven over and over again the businesses that own the cameras are the ones profitting, traffic accidents have almost nil reduction, and yellow lights are reduced to the minimum 3 seconds required under federal law so that more people are cited. This is a money grab for a company, not a risk mitigation. Escambia County won’t receive much revenue either. Lawyers will love defending these cases so they can pad the Ws and pay the bills. Too bad nobody is going to go after Escambia County for this one.
