You can go from the Gulf of Mexico north to Atmore or Flomaton without ever touching US 29.

For example: NAS Pensacola up Blue Angel Parkway to Pine Forest Road/State Road 29 to 297A to 97 to Muscogee Road, left to stay on 96/Jacks Branch Road/Barrineau Park Road to 99 to 97 in Walnut Hill area up to Atmore.

I admit just going up 29 is generally easier and less complicated. I’m just saying it CAN be done.

Wow! The comments get better every day. The facts are, people don’t pay attention when driving, everyone is in a hurry, cell phones are a distraction & FHP does not patrol the area so unacceptable driving will remain rampant. The sheriff’s dept stays busy with criminal activity so the deputies up here don’t have the time to pursue traffic violations. Of course the traffic unit could make a appearance occasionally. Hwy 29 from Cantonment north has become the Escambia County Autobahn & Hwy 97 (Atmore Hwy) is a racetrack which remains unchecked, unmonitored & basically lawless. If you live up here & drive it then you know what just said is a fact. Each time you get behind the wheel to drive up here just remember it may be your last. There will be no relief until FHP leadership makes it a priority & puts troopers in the area. Until then have your next of kin info up to date.

I agree with Teleman. The purpose of the lights at that intersection was to prevent northbound 29 vehicles from turning left onto 96 in front of Southbound 29 vehicles. Sounded good and helpful until someone decided to make it a yellow flashing one. This just creates opportunity for the same problem they tried to fix. The layout of that intersection is apparently deceiving to those challenged with spatial or distance awareness issues!

How can any driver not see a vehicle in front of them pulling a trailer? How long did that driver have his/her eyes off the road? This newspaper is making me a more attentive driver for sure.

You don’t stop at green lights, unless you have no other choice. Traffic would pile up if there were not the turn on blinking yellow light. When approaching lights or crossroads slow down, most accidents happen at these places. Happy holidays and Arrive Alive.

Traffic accidents aren’t new, but this stuff isn’t proportional to the population increase.

It’s not the road, but rather the people who drive on it. People can’t seem to put that phone down and pay attention. It’s not hard. Maybe we should start giving IQ tests prior to giving people a license to drive?
