The Children’s Trust Fund works very well in other parts of the state. It just needs someone like Lindsey Cannon to make it what is supposed to be. An awesome way of helping the children of Escambia County.

I have known and worked with Lindsey professionally for 2-3 years. In that time, I have come to respect her as a person and leader at Children’s Home Society. Lindsey is passionate about working with children and I am convinced she will bring her professionalism and love of people to the Children’s Trust. I have the utmost faith in her as a person of character.

I keep seeing posts about keeping the vote restricted on certain issues to property owners only.

#1: Unconstitutional.
#2: Do you understand that means that the out of state owners & downstate developers will have more control of our processes?
#3: Un-American on it’s face. Renters pay property tax as a pass-through from the property owner, so they have just as much right to vote as some person who owns a derelict property because Grandma passed away.

As far as this Trust, it needs reform and oversight, or send it back to the voters for reconsideration.

I voted against the Children’s Trust not because I don’t want children in Escambia County to be helped. Because I had doubts that the taxpayers’s money would be used wisely and actually make a difference in the lives of children living in poverty.

This is the outcome of allowing non property owners to vote for a new layer of property taxes thinking it wont have an effect on them. Then when landlords raise rents they are so quick to play the victim.
