Insurance companies generally charge high premiums to homeowners in communities with an FSRS (Fire Suppression Rating Schedule) rating of nine. If the nearest fire department is more than five miles away from your neighborhood, your home will be in a group of properties with an FSRS rating of 10. Since the station on Bauer Road closed, the home owners in that area have experienced significant insurance increases and some home owners have been dropped by their insurance company. Until the county infrastructure can support the safety of our community, we need to put non-essential expenses (community centers, fishing piers, beach access, boat ramps, etc.) on the back burner and take care of basic needs.
