@Frank,

That depends. The article only says the vehicles were at this intersection. Now, if the bus was turning from Calloway onto Booker, then, yes, there was a stop sign. If they were turning from Booker onto Calloway, no, there isn’t.

Everyone, stating the law or states…. It was at an intersection…. Was there a stop sign? You are never to pass in an intersection…. Period.!

The statue reads the person turning left must yield the right of away of to anyone who is passing on the left. Which is just absurd. However Left hand turns are the most dangerous turns to make. This is why your delivery companies , FedEx and USPS all train their drivers to turn right in driving their routes. That said as a normal driver like us are turning left, you should be looking for anything in front of you, like oncoming traffic and according to this Statue anyone who decides to pass you on your left and you must allow them to to go. Before you turn left.

Hers is an example for you Your heading North on Highway 97 and are turning left on to Pilgrim Trail someone decides to pass you as you prepare to turn because we all know who impatient people are on highway 97 you start your turn after you had already cleared your mirror and in front of you the driver decided not to slow down and is speeding and pass you as you start that turn and then the collision occurs your at fault. Your first thought is where did they come from they must have been speeding doesn't matter the Trooper didn't witness the speeding your at fault.
You have to yield the right of way to the person who is impatient and wants to pass you. Although you did everything right. Now you as the left turning driver on Highway 97 are involved in an accident where you as the driver are injured severely or deceased. All because this law supports impatient driving. Now for everyone reading these remarks look up statue 316.08 and 316.087 both of which make this even more confusing.
Yet in Drivers ED we are teaches you no passing in residential areas,and as being the driver in front of another vehicle you have the right of way.

@Who Got The Ticket,

There are no laws that give the right of way to any driver. They all say who must yield the right of way. There is a difference.

316.085 in part.

Limitations on overtaking, passing, changing lanes and changing course.—
(1) No vehicle shall be driven to the left side of the center of the roadway in overtaking and passing another vehicle proceeding in the same direction unless authorized by the provisions of this chapter and unless such left side is clearly visible and is free of oncoming traffic for a sufficient distance ahead to permit such overtaking and passing to be completely made without interfering with the operation of any vehicle approaching from the opposite direction of any vehicle overtaken. In every event the overtaking vehicle must return to an authorized lane of travel as soon as practicable…

(2) No vehicle shall be driven from a direct course in any lane on any highway until the driver has determined that the vehicle is not being approached or passed by any other vehicle in the lane or on the side to which the driver desires to move and that the move can be completely made with safety and without interfering with the safe operation of any vehicle approaching from the same direction.

I heard about this confusing traffic rule before. So, please correct me if wrong . Put blinkers on when you want to make a left turn - wait for the opposite traffic lane to clear and then make your turn. Cars that wait behind you proceed after you made the left turn. Are some of the comments saying you have to make sure none of the waiting cars behind you decided to pass while you are still waiting to make the turn?
