The only thing that will slow down this pattern of fatal crashes is strict enforcement of traffic laws. Although you will here the FHP command say they are “fully staffed” that’s misleading to say the least. FHP is down nearly 30 positions for Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties based on staffing from 1995. One asks how is this possible. There were many factors but mostly the old saying “squeaky wheel gets the grease”. As the state population grew exponentially other area politicians and sheriff’s complained and any vacant positions were transferred to other parts of the state. This is why you never see a Trooper in traffic stops and usually wait hours for one to respond to your call.
