@Oversight Have you thought about the cost of putting the whole EREC system underground? Yes, it would help with wind storms for both the new Fiber and power lines since they are integrated on same poles. But, when an outage does occur underground in the rural areas (underground) trying to find and isolate it for repairs could take a lot longer than an overhead outage. We are not in the cement city. Just some rational thoughts.

A good PSA, but consider this: Putting fiber optic cable underground would prevent this along with an increase in reliability during heavy weather. It is only a matter of time till the next storm comes rolling through "EREC's territory." And with a high level of confidence, Mother Nature and her trees will certainly cause "unnecessary... internet outages."
