A few years back I was driving by that rut across from the post office in the direction heading to Walmart. I got too close to the edge and my tire slipped off the road, as I let off the gas (DID NOT HIT THE BREAK) AND I held the wheel super tight while I SLOWLY tried to navigate back on the road I lost control. My truck tire grabbed the road again and it caused it to slam to the right lane, then I tried to not run off the road and I had to play a VERY hard game of back and forth without flipping to try to regain control!! I about flipped my truck with my young child in the truck with me. VERY SCARY!! They need to fix that rut BAD! It’s been there since 2018 that I know of!! I also saw a truck that hit the SAME rut, caused him to loose control and he ended up in the Grass on the opposite side of the road (the side where the post office is) and I’m telling you, I HIGHLY doubt he lived. That was a BAD WRECK!!! It was early in the morning. Very scary and very sad! Every one of us needs to be extra careful when driving past there. Watch for other cars and your self while driving by the post office heading to Walmart in Cantonment! They need to fix it!

I came here to mention that drop off too. I noticed the markings where the car flipped over and it wouldn’t surprise me if that driver fell off that shoulder and over corrected causing the flipping. Is there a number we can call to report it where they’ll actually come repair? I drive a bug truck and I’m even worried about dropping off there. I couldn’t imagine falling off that in a small car.

I was behind a few vehicles Sunday morning when a lady in a truck drove off in that rut, she over corrected and crossed back over both lanes, and almost flipped in the ditch on the south bound side of the road, she was luck she did not take out several other cars.This drop off needs fixing now.

When there is a problem with a FDOT maintained road (US Highway, State Road, or Interstate), just call the FDOT Operations Office in Milton. Give them an EXACT location of the problem. They have always been quite proactive when I’ve called.

Well, I am not sure if this is the reason for this accident, BUT there is a huge, deep rut along the side of the turn lane going to the post office. If your car happens to go off a little bit, a major problem is going to happen. I personally reported this in December 2022. I have seen 4 accidents near this area. The long rut will make a car flip if they go off & overcorrect. It is VERY dangerous! Next time you go by – take a look. Our district 5 rep was told in Dec. and he did contact me & said it was the State DOT, not county. He did fill in a big hole for a temporary fix. (However it was the wrong hole!) Said he’d let the State Dept. know…..but 8 months later, the big drop off is still there & getting deeper everyday. I hope no one dies.
