Water & Sewer System – Turn over to ECUA.
Solid Waste – Turn over to ECUA.
Streets, Lighting, Drainage – Turn over to Escambia County.
Gas – Turn over to Pensacola Energy.
Parks/Rec Facilities – Turn over to Escambia County.
Town Hall – Possible County Branch Offices, Small Auditorium, or Addition to Library.
Policing – Already operated by Escambia County.
Fire – Already operated by Escambia County.
Building Inspection – Already operated by Escambia County.

Arrange things simple, no complex arrangements or attempts to cling to control.

Be real. A municipal town government is unable to function at a 21st Century level in this tiny community. The economics, educational attainment of citizens, financial status of citizens and businesses, overall quality of life, the ability to attract new residents and businesses, and financial opportunities from tourism… it’s simply not there. Massive change is needed in all aspects of the community. The US Census Bureau stats are abysmal. The only hope always appears to be large sums of state revenue to build tiny bridges and tear down asbestos-laden archaic buildings, contributing virtually nothing to the future well-being of the Town. That’s nothing to be proud of at all.

The entities named above can provide governmental services far better than the Town government can at this point. There is no reasonable outlook where a municipal Town government will be able to keep up with current or future regulatory issues, technology, services, job attraction, housing, and its infrastructure within the next 1, 5, 10, or even 25 years. It’s a disservice and disgrace to the residents and business owners who likely want something better. The Town cannot afford expertise (employee or contractual), but it will take all handouts so long as there are no payback expectations as it relates to contributing TO the economy of Escambia County.

Century’s Town government is the proverbial sucking sound. People throughout Escambia County are tired of reading and hearing about Century and its woes. I have lived in this area for 40 years and the Town Government of Century is a never ending broken record of ineptitude and clueless “solutions”.

Dissolve the Town of Century. Any governmental entity not interested in something as basic as water quality to its citizenry does not need to continue operating, and needs to turn to controls over to someone else who does care.
