Thank you for the article on the Trust’s awards. We are excited to see positive outcomes from the programs funded in North Escambia. We had hoped to receive proposals from more agencies on the north end but are pleased that two were funded this round. Please know that no expenditures will be reimbursed without documentation to confirm that the expense was allowable (i.e., in the final approved budget), allocable to the project, and reasonable. The Trust is held to a higher level of accountability than other funders, as these are taxpayers’ dollars. We will NOT be issuing checks and letting programs do whatever they want. Yes, overhead and personnel costs are the bulk of the expenses: these programs provide services, not products. However, we will be monitoring not only their spending but also their progress toward achieving outcomes. Any grantee not making satisfactory progress will be taken back before the Trust Board and funds may be reduced or rescinded.

As a resident of Century, mostly my entire life, as a youth in Century there were a few nice programs for the children to utilize. I, myself, remember going to the Summer program at the Community Center and getting lunches during the summer and even a few years we were taken to go swim in Atmore or Brewton. Those were great times. Now as a mother of two teenagers, there’s literally nothing for my children to utilize. My daughter needs a Community program to commit to for her scholarship and there was nothing available in Century! I am SO EXCITED this is a new era for Century!!!!

Looks like a lot of “overhead” in salaries, benefits and travel expenses (and where is the payback for the money fronted by the town?). Just another boone doggle waste of taxpayer dollars. When will anyone see a measurable result? Bet you won’t see anything but another handout looking for more cash.
