The best thing that ever happened to this bridge is the State taking it over. This has and will continue to stabilize the cost for everyone ghat uses it!

The original intent (and selling point to even construct the Garçon Point Bridge) was for tolls to repay bond holders. State ownership was not needed.

Period.

The bridge authority was told repeatedly by financial analysts that the traffic would not be sufficient to pay the bond holders. The bridge authority pressed on, with the help of Rep. Bolley Johnson.

Most brokerages in Pensacola would not sell the bonds to their clients because of the junk quality rating.

Now the state owns the bridge (broken promise), and the bond holders were paid off from their junk investment.

Lower tolls for frequent users is just another taxpayer subsidy to wealthy interests. Governor DeSantis is the one who has pushed for state takeover of the bridge and lower tolls.

Garcon Point bridge should be free for resident of Garcon Point south of the interstate. Everything we need is at the other end of that bridge. It was a “faster” route to the beach that never happened. I don’t think the original investors or the state intended for Garcon Point resident to pay for the cost to build that bridge. Let us drive free please.
