@ Mack – you’re right. The first sentence, last three words “NEXTERA ENERGY FOUNDATION” is the charitable arm that the money comes from. It gets there through donations. My Grandson has a job with FPL in St. Augustine, so I know what I’m talking about. Just a quick phone call yesterday to him verifies my post.

Employee Funded

FPL employees give through their paychecks to a fund that donates the money.

I worked at Gulf Power Co for 35 years, retired and nothing has changed about how we donate. Unless you have worked at Gulf Power/FPL, then you are out to lunch.

Do you donate to anything? I’m not talking about paying your bill.

Red Cross, Salvation Army, United Way, Manna Food Bank, Waterfront Mission, Teen Challenge. Good Will. They all operate off donations.

I guess when you have a monopoly on something, you can spend money on “whatever” you want to. Regardless of whether your customers like it or not. Too bad there isn’t another power company that would give FPL some competition. But on the other hand, there no longer remains any competitive companies around. They “ALL” charge what they want because it’s the old adage, you need it, I have it. It’s “supply and demand.”

Do I get to use this gift as a personal write-off on my taxes this year? Doesn’t seem right for companies to claim they need to raise my rates, take my money, give it away, and then use it as a tax write-off for the business.

They need to stop spending our money on things other than power related. They donate our money in thier name to make themselves look good, that is thousands and thousands of dollars.

No wonder FPL’s rates are so high! Why not give that money back to the customers in the form of rate cuts?

FPL definitely over charges and we the people pay! And it is very difficult to discuss any bill issues with them.
