Watson, modern libraries have fewer books per square foot of building than ever before. There's lots of technology available, with adequate space, and free wi-fi in pretty much every public library nowadays. Have you been in one lately? Or are you just shooting from the hip with no first-hand experience? Plenty of people still love books, too. And those "reading areas" can be used for reading anything... including electronic devices. N. Watson, modern libraries have fewer books per square foot of building than ever before. I can't wait to bring my nieces to explore their love of reading especially when we can't afford to buy new books as quickly as they can consume them. "The joy of curling up in bed at night with a good mystery novel is something to be cherished." No beds at the library so what you do at home is fine. Old fashioned thinking sets us back decades...kids today are born with technology at their finger tips...Kids don't curl up to a book....they use phones, notebooks and iPads. Like I said, an area needs to be built but not in the sense of books being the primary reason, access for kids to get their homework, afterschool activities, news/knowledge and worldly experience through technology is what is needed, especially in areas with little to no access...families in lower income areas are not necessarily conducive to world travel but the internet can get you there until the time comes for real travel and experience....just a few thoughts.
