I am glad the owner of the kia and occupants survived. I hope the driver of the truck got a ticket. There are too many medians to cross from mcdavid to cantonment imo. The same thing happened to me at nighttime in cantonment. Going 60 mph, i didn't think i was going to be able to avoid hitting them after they dead stopped in the lane instead of finishing crossing and it was terrifying. They deserve to be held liable because kias have bright lights.. there is no way that car did not see them coming. Too many people driving who do not know who goes first on the highway.

May you all have a speedy recovery. Yes, God was with you all that night. And thank goodness for seat belts and airbags. To the other driver, hopefully she is doing ok also and her injuries are minor.

I was the one driving the Kia Optima. For you people to start running your mouth about a mild crash and cheap car, please keep your ignorant comments to yourself. I was traveling southbound on 29, the Silverado was in the center median. I slowed down to about 55 merged to the slow lane. She then pulled out in front of me while trying to get across. I T-bone her doing just under 60. So to the person saying small crash, go dive your car into a wall at 60 and see how small it is. I ended up with a cracked sternum, my Step Daughter ended up with bruising from the seat belt. My 13 yr old son who was in the front seat ended up with his intestines ripped off his stomach. He's still in recovery. If know have any intelligence you'd understand the cars have crumble points which protect the cabin. For the car to be about 6' in the air come down and land sideways against the truck (side damage on kia) i am amazed the car protected us like that. There was even an airbag that wrapped around my legs for protection.

So before you start blabbing about cheap cars, small crash. Please know the whole story. It was me and 2 minors in that car that walked away. It could have ended so differently, my son and step daughter are still alive because of the design of that car and God protecting us. They're called crumple zones. Which is why the government tests every new car.

@ Concerned,
Most EVs use lithium-ion batteries, which are dry cell. Many of these cars still have a regular auto motive lead acid battery, used for the same functions as the standard car battery. Well with the exception of turning a starter.

Cars are designed with crumple zones thats why they seem to get destroyed by collisions. They take the force so it doesn't transfer to the occupants. Its a good thing otherwise people would have much worse internal injuries. They are made cheap as possible though. I get what you mean though

I hope everyone will be ok.
