Olin this escape had nothing to do with staffing. This inmate had completed 13 years of a 29-year sentence and was classified as a minimum security inmate. He was assigned to a community based facility that is basically a work release center. He worked for a private employer working towards re-integration into society.

Apparently he is institutionalized and this escape will return him to a more secure facility where he can feel more “at home”.

Extremely concerned
When there are 30 to 40 vacant correctional officer positions at each facility, you have to rush to complete duties. Then there is the amount of officers walking off the job due to mandatory overtime and these officers being completely burned out. I know this sounds crazy but true! When there are orders for Inmates to have two officers with them when being moved in and out of a facility but not enough staff to do this then rules are broken. Mistakes are made due to exhaustion. That’s when the facilities release the wrong person or gates are left open or corrupt officers assist with escapes. It’s only going to get worse.

What is going on with all of the escape’s lately. I will also add inmates assaulting officers. Is it a lack of training or are the officers not paying attention? Short on staff? We are concerned. It’s been a lot of both over the last year.
