REGARDING:
"There is a nice, new traffic light with turn lanes, etc."

Methinks ye are thinking of 297A and Kingsfield. And yes, that intersection is much improved. 97 and Kingsfield, not so much last time I looked. Stop sign, yes; traffic light, no.

There is a nice, new traffic light with turn lanes, etc. so much nicer than before. Drivers need to focus on driving. Life is precious. My sincere condolences to the family who lost a loved one.

If people were held responsible legally for taking someone’s life,
I bet they would slow down & pay attention! How about charging the wrongful driver with manslaughter. The same goes for all of the folks who continually turn left in front of motorcycles & cause deaths! I feel like people would pay much more attention if they knew their in attention to their driving could cause a fatality & prison time for them if they are at fault.

I live in the Cantonment area, and stop signs are almost joke. People just fly on through.. Almost had... so a head on going down Mucogee.. and Jack Branch. Lady just kept on thru the stop sign... I had to swerve to not hit her... she gave me a dirty look! People need to slow down. I drive down 97 a lot. Driver fly around me like there is no tomorrow. Same on 297 so sad for lady killed. My prayers to the family..

Roughly a year ago, I spoke to Sheriff Chip Simmons about installing cameras at major intersections. Yes...the initial cost will be very expensive. However, when people run red lights, they will receive a surprise in the mail from the Escambia County Sheriffs Dept. in the form of a bill for a traffic violation. The cameras would also tape all accidents at these intersections. Eventually the cameras will pay for themselves. I believe this would reduce running red lights. If you've traveled through Gulf Breeze, you'll notice that there are two (2) cameras. One at Fairpoint Dr. and one at Daniel St. HOWEVER....I was told by Sheriff Simmons that he would have to run it by the County Commissioners. Like I said....that was over a year ago and still no word or indication one way or the other. I would like to suggest that everyone call the Sheriffs Office and encourage them to move forward with this idea. Thank you.

I drive a truck during the week. I can tell you stoplights, sign, warning lights etc. Will not help. What we need are people to put down the cell phones while driving.Slow down, don't race thru yellow lights and go thru red lights. All of these examples I have seen accidents from minor to fatalities. All of these accidents are avoidable by paying attention to slowing down and following basic driver courtesy.

They made highway 29/97 a full functioning intersection with traffic lights and there are still fatal accidents there. It's been said many, many times, people need to pay attention, and regardless of what you do, these types of accidents will always continue to happen.

First, condolences to the family of the deceased. Hopefully everyone else recovers ok.

This intersection is not to blame. Wide open sight lines from every direction. Simple inattention.
