Judges look at it also from a standpoint
what the individual can afford to pay.
Some countries base their fines on a person’s daily earnings. A speeding ticket will cost a certain number of an individual’s daily earnings, a DWI costs more days, etc. That way each person is punished alike – unlike here where the same dollar fine has no impact on financially well off folks, while others have to struggle or are incarcerated to pay it.

This idiot is released on $5k bond after threatening murder and assault on a minor. Yet in another article, a 19 y/o is held on $45k bail for stealing less than $3k worth of tools. These judges should be locked up for their continuously ridiculous bond and bail settings.
