Unfortunately, this is a story all too familiar to myself and the other residents that live along Dugout Lane, Abrams Road, and Sanspree Lane in the Wawbeek, Alabama community. I have lived in this area for decades and have lived in fear of our crossing being blocked. Usually the culprit is a broken down train that is blocking both of the crossings on Dugout and Abrams. This is our only entrance and exit to and from Highway 31. To reach “civilization” when these crossings are blocked would require a 4 wheel drive or an off road type vehicle and a journey trespassing through thick timberland. I have lived here through 3 pregnancies and a sick and dying father and have always been in fear of needing emergency medical services and being unable to receive care. This past November 23, CSX closed both the Dugout and Abrams crossings with no prior notification to any of the roughly 30 residents. Most of us have jobs that require us to use the railroad crossing. Because there was no prior notification, some residents were unable to report for work that day, myself included. Supposedly the work was finished on Wednesday evening but was still left blocked by a barricade over the Thanksgiving Holiday.

We all understand that there is a need to maintain the tracks. But a little common courtesy extended to the residents would go a long way.
