I am so happy that you guys print the reports from Santa Rosa and Escambia counties. I love to read them and I pray for all of them to be safe. It is a real dangerous occupation. I am also happy that Officer Cushing was in the Byrneville area at night because I live there and I always hear gunshots at night. I also think that Zara is an awesome FWC canine!
My brother retired from FWC around 4 to 5 years ago in Leon county and I know that for all of the years that he was an officer we all prayed that he would come home after each shift. So, thanks to each and every one of the officers who have this dangerous job.

@Fence Jumper…all Taxidermist and game processors are governed by the same laws we are(a little stricter for them) before you drop an animal off at either location one is supposed to have the Harvest log in information as well as the confirmation number. If not, they can get in just as much trouble as the individual who harvested the animal. CWD(Chronic Wasting Disease) is real and the laws are in place for this reason as well as keeping everyone in check. Maybe they are trying to track everyone/everything but as long as you follow the law you are good…just information you may not know.

Taxidermists should know the laws pertaining to their profession. If they are a licensed professional and have a place of business then they are subject to state and federal laws and can be inspected just like every other licensed business subject to inspection. It’s not that difficult, you just require the proper paperwork from the customer (if they are professional, they know what they need) and get on with the money making…..LEGALLY.

I have to agree with John Q., ignorance of the law is no excuse. As a small business owner, it is my responsibility to make sure that my business is in compliance with local, state and federal laws, ordinances and regulations.

I think any buisness that breaks the law not only should be held accountable but should also be identified. They know the laws or at least they should. Good Job FWC

I do not agree that the FWC officers should be entering a taxidermist place of business and holding them accountable for untagged wild game. The taxidermist is not the game warden and shouldn’t have to concern himself if the item is tagged or reported. He is in business to make money. He should not be held accountable for untagged items. This cat and mouse game should be between the hunter and the game warden and not involve the taxidermist at all. This is like setting up a dui check point in the bar parking lot.

Great job FWC. I, we, appreciate all y’all do to keep illegal hunters in check. Many of the violations I see here are senseless and due to personal laziness in not getting the proper permitting. The violations concerning out of season harvest shows these individuals don’t care about the law and/or doing things the right way. Again, THSNK YOU and keep up the good work.
