I aam 78 years old, and I remember walking with my Grandmother along side the old millpond. There would be men standing on rafts using peavys to direct the logs into the sawmill. There was a loud and constant noise coming from the mill as the logs were being cut. I remember there was an old drugstore and a clinic north from the mill. That was in the late 40's. Archer's store on old hwy 29 , and Turner's grocery stores were filled with customers. Also Dickie Hudson''s store was inundated with customers. Dickie was married to my first cousin, Betty Ruth. My mother and grandmother rented a little bungalow right across the highway from Turners. Leroy owned several bungalows across from the store. Back then everybody had to have ration books to be able to buy anything. I even had a ration book to get milk, a piece of candy, or anything. My grandmother would let me carry my ration book so that I would feel like a big boy. Thoe were tough times but we were much happier then. On Saturdays Leroy would have a sale day at the store, and there were loudspeakers outside that played music over them. I remember hearing Eddie Arnold singing "The Cattle Call".

Now That’s an automobile right there ! Cheap air conditioning system , No infotainment thingys etc. With the preponderance of roll overs & one car accidents mayhaps we need to go back to the old days of only driving & paying attention to the road etc.!
