Livinmolina…why not dispatch as my fire departments to respond as possible,one man deceased, three critically injured juveniles and one seriously injured adult male,I would hope as many respondents as were available would be despatched,this is a serious as it gets without it being all deceased, yes?

Livinmolino. When dispatch pages a dept and nobody is there to respond theu have to page out the next closest one. Then if nobody responds they keep going down the line. In a huge wreck or one where there is trauma and multiple people they will dispatch multiple depts.

Multiple units are dispatched to emergencies to insure adequate equipment and personnel are on scene to insure safe mitigation of the incident. With volunteer departments, volunteerism is at an all time low. People seem to have too little time (or are just unwilling) to devote to the training and support required to safely operate in an emergency response role. For career departments, manpower is ay an all time low; somewhat due to many people not being willing to do the job and more so to local government agencies not able or willing to fund the needed personnel.

This particular incident was in a remote location and required a large number of personnel to complete heavy extrication on two vehicles, give patient care to five trauma patients, provide on scene traffic and crowd control, provide remote traffic detour, and handle landing zone operations for three helicopters.

Able bodied people may be able to help the situation by contacting their local volunteer fire department and volunteering their time to be trained and responding to emergencies. It is hard demanding work, but very rewarding to help others in times of need. Others can be sure to contact their local elected officials to express support for the needed funding for adequate personnel and equipment.

I love all of our first responders!!

Just curious as to why so many fire departments respond to auto accidents and small fires? Do they really require all of the fire crews. I could understand if it was a 6 car pile up, or a large apartment complex on fire. Just curious.
