Is there a reason why Detroit remains to be closed? It’s added more time to my commute to pick up my child from daycare after I get off work and forces me into the traffic jam on Pineforest rd! For people who live close to UWF, Detroit was a way to detour the major nine mile to Pine forest traffic jam.

The sign on Pineforest that tells drivers Detroit is close and to take Sharon Drive is causing a good bit of the problem. Sharon Drive from Pine Forest leads directly back to Detroit. Also, the entrance to the neighborhood at Kingfisher Way does not say Dead End. So every day during rush hour there is a parade Of cars driving into the neighborhood, wandering around and then going back out the way they came in. This is AFTER driving around the sign that says Local Traffic Only.

Unless things have changed, there are plans in the works for the Pine Forest/Detroit Blvd intersection issue. If you look up "diverging diamond interchange" you'll see what they are considering and trying to get funding for. There is a similar one on this animation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zd5AatLWvcg

Also, plans to pave and improve Detroit Blvd are coming but they ran into issues with the problem they're working on now with ECUA sewers/drainage so it was delayed. Originally there were plans for sidewalks but I don't know if that has changed. Now that 9 mile is better, I hope more will use it. The back ups on Pine Forest are crazy and has been a problem for a long time.

Suzie B, I worked in a job that required me to drive probably at least 40% of the work day. I decided those people you are talking about are probably the same ones that can't walk and chew gum at the same time maybe???

This road closure has already been a much needed break for the traffic pile ups that occur every afternoon/evening on Pine Forest Rd north of I-10. SO many people started using Detroit as a cut-through rather than traveling 9-mile while it was under construction, that the traffic has been horrible for quite some time. Drivers turning both north & south from Detroit cause the Pine Forest Rd traffic to come to a standstill while they merge onto Pine Forest. Meanwhile, if you're already in the Pine Forest traffic, you get stuck waiting through 3-4 traffic signal changes before you can get through the intersection. I'm hoping this road closure will make people start using 9-mile & quit using Detroit so often. I wish I could think of a solution to the traffic issue, but there doesn't seem to be one with so many traffic signals right in a row on Pine Forest!

I don't understand why the words on the signs - ROAD CLOSED - isn't understood. The "detour" takes you right back to Pine Forest on the west end and to 9 mile on the east end. There is NO WAY to go through yet people are continuing to go around the signs, trying to dodge the equipment, have moved the ROAD CLOSED signs and barrels and are risking an accident. Detroit is CLOSED at that point and there are no thru streets where they're working.
