Pcola winger, I moved here in '93. Rates were one of the lowest in the nation and restoral times after storms were the quickest. Got to love mergers and the government officials who got this done for them. The people here keep electing the same politicians. Nuff said?

To the person who said it's the same people--- actually fewer than half remain from before the takeover. Forced retirements, burnout and a few firings have made things as bad for those who remain as it is for the customers!

Agree with Jimbo - FPL cutting out Energy Select. Check out the FPL peak hours. Senior citizens try to keep monthly usage at or below 1000 kWh to be billed a lower rate. Want know rates until we can get online with FPL.
Also, The Florida Public Service Commission approves increase in utility. Rarely decrease. Governor elects these 5 people.

Remember, the guys and gals who are the workers are the same people.
They care whether you agree or not.
I respect them all, dependable and hard working.
It doesn't matter what the name is.
Show them that respect as they do not ever let us down.
They are us.
Praying for all to keep safe and have a safe and wonderful holiday season.
This includes the staff that is over them.
They are a true team!

The first thing that they did was cut out Energy Select program which reduced rates during certain periods of the day when it was beneficial to the power company and the customer. FPL said that it was not cost effective..in other words they dont care about saving the customer money...sure rate increase is soon to follow.

My husband and I were in NJ for awhile where he was working. NJ Central is the absolute worst after a storm. Your lights don't come back until the Southern States like Georgia Power come up to get everything up and running. I'm happy a Southern Company like FP&L (which I grew up with) who knows about emergency management is taking over rather than a power company from the North who has no concept of what that means.

Gulf Power customers pay (by a huge margin) the highest rates for electricity in ALL of Florida. FPL likely acquired GP to justify huge increases for their existing customers….

np360 The fine service we had with the real Gulf Power went away almost as soon as FPL got control of the company. That said the local people still tried to give good service and help but many times they hands were tied.
