for one that trailer is to big for that car. and if loaded that explains the sway and loose control.

Rented a U-haul trailer one time and the brakes only worked on one side of it… it has a spring loaded hitch draw bar, and when you slow down, it compresses the spring applies the brakes on the trailer. Every time we’d go down a hill, the brakes would activate and pull to one side like crazy. Almost wrecked us several times before we could get that trailer back to them.

There is a science involved in pulling a trailer. Attention has to be paid to the size and weight of the trailer. Also, the weight of the load contained and how it is distributed in the trailer. Another special concern is the size of the towing vehicle with regard to what is being pulled. A two axle trailer being pulled by a Honda Pilot??

Everyone who uses a trailer should be familiar with the 60/40 rule. 60% of the weight forward of the axle. Even a small trailer improperly loaded can take a full size vehicle off the road. That may not be the case here but it happens very often. Stay safe.

I have to wonder if uhaul mentioned anything about tongue weight, because it seems like that might have been at play here.
