I agree with those who feel it necessary to fine the hell out of the Rail Road for blocking public roads. You do realize if a private citizen blocked a public road they’d be fined, right?

A couple years ago i wrote a letter to the railroad commission explaining how CSX was hauling massive trains to save money resulting in breakdowns that closed emergency routes. These routes being blocked hampered the ability for emergency vehicles to access local emergency medical facilities specifically Sacred Heart Hospital. A few weeks later someone at Escambia County was contacted by the railroad commission and the County explained it was not an emergency and there were alternate routes available. With that said don’t waste your time complaining, nothing will happen in this government bureaucracy. Have a good day!

Last time this came up the BOCC wrote a strongly worded letter and beat or chests and strutted around like peacocks. Inside tip: it’s our fault. We are posturing to make it look like we are doing something because we lack the will to build infrastructure.

I guess there were many people late for work, late getting home from work, children missing school. There should be a connector from Quintette Road to McKenzie Road and CSX should not be allowed to block both intersections. That will solve many road blocks. Rocky Branch Road off Quintette Rd should be a route to 95A if it isn’t already.

CSX employees could have disconnected the cars blocking Quintette Road but they get a high seeing all the traffic build up and frustrated drivers.

@ Steve – you’re right, CSX don’t give a rat’s _____.

Hello all!

I have worked with CSX for about 2 decades and I can tell you first hand thatfrom.the top to the bottom they do not care about your complaints or gripes. They may seem diplomatic and political correct, ect but I can tell you they are likely laughing behind closed doors.

They have a point:

They believe that the surrounding roads should have been built better, especially around major roads. They believe the complaints and grips should go to the appropriate city or county where the road issue is, not to CSX. They see the city or county elected officials as INEPT as they cannot properly build or adjust roads around a track that has been there for a very long time.

The railways are very important, just as important as roadways.
It is up to elected officials to figure this stuff out. It won’t just magically happen.

Another train, presumably, blocked off 9 and 10 mile today for over an house. Unfortunately, they cannot be fined, legally because they own the property. Every road that crosses the tracks does so only because csx allows them to. States cannot fine them, only the feds can. With that said, we need to do something Iike another community did – they started fining the conductor and engineers, not csx themselves, which is perfectly legal. After that, they started breaking the train up to allow traffic through
