I was active duty Navy, on temporary duty in Washington DC about five miles south of the Pentagon. We were in a meeting with defense contractors. Several times during the meeting a receptionist interrupted to tell us of first one, then another aircraft hitting the WTC in NYC. Word then started circulating that the Pentagon right up the road was on fire. We wrapped the meeting and attempted to get back to the hotel we were staying at. The acrid smell of the fire as we passed the burning Pentagon is still clear in my mind to this day, and I knew we were going to war.

I had just gotten up from bed after working the four to midnight shift at NAS Whiting Field the night before, my first year of working there. My wife yelled at me to come quick to watch the TV, & we watched in disbelief as the second one hit on live TV. Needless to say, I didn’t go to work that day, as they locked down the base to all but essential personnel, & I think it was at least a few days until they opened again, & security was super tight for quite awhile afterwards.

I was in Northeastern University’s paramedic program. We left class early for a break & the program director was watching watching TV in her office which we thought was strange. I remember thinking it couldn’t be real but then when I saw the towers collapse shortly after so many rescuers went in I remember the horrible realization of how large the death toll would be. As an EMT seeing so many brothers & sisters killed while trying to rescue others was unbearable. In the days that followed so many in my class wanted to go to NY to help dig our brothers & sisters from the rubble. Our instructor said “I want to go as much as you do but they don’t need EMTs, they need search & rescue & morticians.

I was working at what was Barnett Bank/Nations Bank on Nine Mile Rd. We pulled our TV out of the break room into the lobby and stood around it and watched in horror all day long.

I was about to start a lab procedure at the Air Force Research Lab, dealing with Bio logial weapons when we heard a plane had hit the tower. We stopped what we were doing and went to find out what was going on.

I was with my family at a hotel in Panama City, FL. We were getting ready to go out on a pontoon boat with a couple other families, when my mother called me and asked was I watching television. I quickly turned on the TV and saw the one tower on fire and then saw a plane crash into the second tower.

I was teaching 8th grade Civics/ American Government at Ransom Middle School in CANTONMENT…was checking into thr front office when all the administration was gather around the tv.. .thats when I saw live the plane hit the South z
Tower…threw out my lesson plans and my students and I were glued to my classroom tv…watching HISTORY IN THE MAKING
that day…even during that tragic event,I saw all walks of life give aid and help save strangers.
