I tend to think so too, but the current rate isn’t much higher than it was in 1960 and has been higher and lower year to year. Not talking hanging necessarily, but death penalty. Homicide rate is up for last year. Mostly I think people who murder aren’t considering the consequences. If they believed they would be caught and given ANY kind of punishment, most would probably not happen.

According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics :
The Nation’s homicide rate was 4.6
per 100,000 population in 1950. It doubled from the
mid-1960’s to the late 1970’s. In 1980 it peaked at
10.2 and fell to 7.9 in 1985. It rose again in the late
1980’s and early 1990’s to another peak of 9.8 in
1991. After 1991 the homicide rate declined sharply.
In recent years the decline has slowed. The Nation’s
murder rate was 5.5 in 2000 compared to 5.7 in
1999.

Jared was such a good kid growing up. This makes me so sad for his poor momma. His brother is gone and Jared I fear isn’t long behind him.

Regardless of what Jared did, he and the Diamond family will forever be connected by his children (Gary’s grandchildren). The family deserves justice, I don’t believe that would be found by the death penalty in this case. Gary was such an amazing man and it is a terrible thing for him to be taken too soon. Jared will spend time in prison, it may never be enough to some, but hopefully it’s enough that his daughters can get answers to questions they may have one day.

and I will add it is a shame because when he left Homestead he said he was going to kill everyone in that house and he would have had he not already created a scene and used 5 shots on one man!!

@Alan most know that, I can bet. He will get life in prison at minimum 25 years.

There’s absolutely no doubt that he killed Mr. Diamond in cold blood. None whatsoever- HE DID IT. Build a gallows, call all the TV cameras and announce “This is what we do to cold blooded murderers” and drop his sorry self though the trap door. Then throw him in a hole and forget about him. And don’t take 30 years to do it. Give him the same option he gave Mr, Diamond, with the same swiftness.

Folks, they don’t give the death penalty for 2nd degree murder. Try reading the article and not just the headline.

Penalties for Second Degree Murder
The crime of Second Degree Murder is a First Degree Felony in Florida and punishable by up to life in prison, life on probation, and a $10,000 fine.

We all know that there are soft spots in our judicial system. That said, he will be judged by one a lot higher than any judge that sits on the bench! I still feel that if our judicial system would bring back public hanging for capital crimes, there would be less people interested in swinging from the gallows! This my seem harsh by some but think about the family who will never have the pleasure of holding their loved one again.

Jared made a bad choice but these people are family to each other the Devil always comes to kill steal and destroy let these people heal from this tragic situation I pray for both families pray for them instead of judging
