I live maybe 2-3 miles from where the body of this precious soul was found. It’s still hard to believe that she was so close to our community. Prayers and sincere condolences to her daughter, and all of her extended family & friends. RIP angel. ❤

Not much to add here. Most people have common sense and the comments reflect that, well with the exception of some with no name. Application of the death penalty is a 100% deterrent to repeat offenses by the killer.

Other than that, though, it is true that people who can imagine winning millions of dollars in which odds are hundreds of millions to one against, still imagine they won’t be killed for killing. And to be honest, many may not. May not get caught. May not be charged. May not be convicted. May not get that particular penalty. May not live long enough to see it executed.

May even get a pardon.

If murderers and/or other criminals were convinced they would not get away with crime, most would not commit the crimes even if the punishment were just a thousand dollars.
OJ Simpson got away with murder but wound up broke.
He just didn’t think far enough ahead.

You are correct. The death penalty has not been a deterrent at all. And that is the problem. How bad would you like to severely handicap the number of capital offenses? The problem is that the current manner in which the State of Florida is allowed to carry out the sentence. If done in a more public, painful, barbaric if you will, manner, I have no doubt it would curtail the crime society distastes. However, people have been indoctrinated to have belief systems rooted in emotion. Therefore, some criminals will even seek out the death penalty because of the treatment they receive and the likelihood they would die of old age rather than lethal injection. But to each his own.

Public executions would slow some of the nonsense down. If people actually witnessed criminals being executed they would not want to be one.
