All traffic intersections are dangerous, especially one in a location like this. The only thing that will make most of them safer is the human factor. The drivers need to be paying special attention when approaching any traffic light or intersection. This intersection does have its problems, but they can be solved if the human factor is being applied by all. For the record I was opposed to this light when it was first proposed. Have there been more or fewer accidents since it was installed? I don’t know. But I do know my sister’s car and another car were both totaled by a semi driver who was traveling too fast for foggy road conditions and rear-ended both cars while they were literally sitting ducks at this traffic light. So we are back to the human factor!

Not a thing in the world wrong with this intersection other than the mistakes of the motor vehicle operators. I get green lights, red lights, turn arrows, never had an issue. What causes the issue is people U-turning, not coming to a stop before right turns on a red light, and people making left turns in front of oncoming traffic and misjudging the distance. The only issue I have with the intersection itself is the entrance to the Tom Thumb/Crabtree church road when turning north on 97 cause people to stop while waiting to turn and can cause vehicles to be stopped unexpectedly in the 29 intersection with oncoming traffic thinking that the traffic is flowing and they have plenty of distance to make it across. There needs to be a turn lane for those waiting to turn onto Crabtree.

I agree with most of the comments; All it takes is to slow down, drive with with caution and obey the traffic laws. (Better said than done)

Accidents happen every day. Every where. People are so distracted these day, plus more vehicles on the highways. Why complain? Slow down, get over and give the ones out there helping those accident victims a chance to go home to their family’s. That intersection is dangerous, but so are others.

As long as people get behind the wheel of any thing with an engine there are going to be accidents. This day and age people have so many distractions that we are the blame. My Dad drove until he was 88 years old and never had an accident, We live in such a rushed world, everyone is in a hurry. And the reason for closing down the intersection is for the safety for all who is concerned. Including all the complaining rubber neckers who can’t keep your eyes on the road and get over or slow down for the ones who risk their lives to help these accident victims. Get a grip people life goes on.

This is an intersection where the traffic light needs left turn arrows particularly because the cars coming from the Atmore side turning right to head south on 29 never pause or slow down.

This light and intersection is a constant problem!!I wrecked and totaled my vehicle in November and it’s because the turn arrow doesn’t come on early in the morning I’ve witnessed it on top of many other people and when I asked for the footage to take my citation to court the officer said those are just mounts now cameras are installed…so what’s the point of camera mounts if they’re null and void? This is a very dangerous light and the lack of maintenance and inspection is ridiculous!!!

bill, the reason why they closed down the highway and didn’t leave open one lane is because of the safety for the first responders on scene and others.
