Not sure about that Aeronca 7AC, but the Cubs fuel tank was located inside &amp; forward, just under the very basic instrument panel. Just forward of the windshield was the fuel cap, on top of the cowling. The &quot;fuel gauge&quot; was a cork attached at the bottom of a straight wire that went up through the center of the cap. The more fuel in the tank, the more the wire showed. Little to no wire showing, you were on or near an empty tank. Sometimes the wire might get stuck from rust &amp; give a false reading, so when you checked the oil, it was good practice to get oil on your fingers from the dipstick &amp; oil the wire to prevent sticking.</description>
