This is great news. The County needs this continuity of solid leadership. I’ve been really happy and grateful to witness his swift decisions and courage to act on much-needed policy and personnel changes. Hopefully Mr. Gilmore will stay humble in his role and continue to listen to boots on the ground. An open-door, no-retribution policy needs to be in place, if it isn’t already, so he can continue to wrap his arms around the real issues. There is still so much that needs to be addressed, but the strides he has taken so far are the best news coming out of EMS in years. There are some in the department who seem to feel that he needs to be talking more with veteran middle management and front liners about his decisions, and statements that some of them are not quite the thing. I’m certainly not going to fault him at this point for that, but will trust that once things are stabilized and improving, everything will continue to be revisit as the department heals and the trust between coworkers and the different management levels is once again fostered.
