Really? Yes, it’s the landowners choice what they want to do with THEIR own land. You people that are complaining will be frequent shoppers in this one also. I’m just here for the comments against it from those mighty keyboard whiners. You will not stop the construction of this store just like you didn’t stop the one at Kingsfield and 297A. I guess y’all just want to feel special with your “I’m gonna do this” and “I’m gonna make a phone call” mess. I welcome this store(just like any other) and I pray for their success. If those of you that are CONSTANTLY crying on here wants to make a difference about what is built there…get in touch with the land owner and build what you want on that property instead of typing your plans. I’m sure y’all can purchase this land…yeah, good luck

Well, I LOVE my local Dollar General store! It is convenient, the prices are much lower than Wal Mart or Winn Dixie, and as a septuagenarian, I don’t have to walk forever to get into the front door, nor aisle after aisle to get what I am shopping for.
Ollie’s is a great store for spices, fruits and veggies from Bailey’s are a must, and Sam’s for the big stuff. If no one has noticed, food prices are continually on the rise and will only get worse. I’m glad the DG is a convenient option I can use.

Dearest Sug- please do your homework prior to spouting something untrue. DG is American owned. Also, I highly doubt there are “kickbacks” being provided for erecting an additional DG. It all comes down to what the parcel is zoned as and not based off of how many within a given area. Please refrain from embarrassing yourself further.

This is ridiculous.. Give us anything but a another damn Dollar General. We are also building a gas station next to a gas station a few hundred feet away. Someone in their right mind needs to reject this proposal. I can go little over a mile down the road in three directions to find a DG if I need one. Was really hoping for meaningful business establishments to grab up this real estate along 29. Here comes another mattress store, auto parts store and the like. Welcome to Escambia County

In a free system it isn’t up to the government to determine whether or not they think a business will be profitable. If a Dollar General wants to build next door to another Dollar General, that is their legal right. The zoning board is only to determine if what is going in is consistent with zoning laws. That said, I find it comical how many DG stores are around. They definitely turn a profit.

China DOES NOT own Dollar General Stores, Dollar Tree or Family Dollar. Dollar General Corporation is an American chain of variety stores headquartered in Goodlettsville, Tennessee. Dollar Tree, formerly known as Only $1.00, is an American chain of discount variety stores that sells items for $1 or less. Headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia. Family Dollar was bought by Dollar Tree in 2015, and is headquartered in Chesapeake, Virginia after moving it’s original headquarters in Matthews, NC.

Dollar General, Dollar Tree and Family Dollar receive about 40% of their merchandise from China. And get this – WalMart receives 70-80% of their merchandise from China. Leaving less than 20 percent for American-made products.

Dollar General is also expanding the Marketplace concept in Florida and adding fueling stations. DG bought WalMart Express and of these 41 stores, 37 of the locations have fueling stations, which Dollar General will continue to operate.

The 41 former Walmart Express stores are broken down in the following way: three in Alabama, two in Arkansas, one in Florida, six in Georgia, three in Kansas, three in Louisiana, five in Mississippi, 12 in North Carolina, four in Oklahoma, and one each in South Carolina and Tennessee.

Myself and my family will continue to buy household products, pet supplies, greeting cards, automotive supplies from the Dollar stores. Dollar General was found to be 6.1% cheaper than Walmart on household items. When Publix, Winn Dixie and WalMart can beat their low prices, then I will consider buying from them. Same name brand products but much cheaper.

Do your homework and start buying American made.
